The drum pulper is a widely used disintegration equipment in the pulp and waste paper recycling industry. It features high processing capacity, low energy consumption, and uniform, stable pulp quality, making it one of the key components in modern waste paper pulping production lines.

The working process of the drum pulper can be clearly divided into three zones, where the material sequentially passes through as the drum rotates:
A. Dismantling Zone
The waste paper raw material is fed into the drum’s feed end via an inlet screw. As the drum rotates slowly, internal lifting plates elevate the material to a certain height before allowing it to drop freely. This repetitive “lifting-falling” action, under high concentration conditions (typically 12%-18%), effectively breaks the waste paper into fibers by relying on the material’s own gravitational friction and mutual friction. This process avoids excessive cutting damage to the fibers while preserving their original strength.
B. Screening Zone
After disintegration, the fiber suspension enters the screening zone in the middle with the rotation of the drum. The cylindrical body in this zone is equipped with a screen plate. Qualified fibers are “filtered” out by the screen plate under the action of water, forming good pulp that flows to the next process. Meanwhile, heavy impurities larger than the screen holes (such as plastic sheets, staples, ropes, stones, etc.) are intercepted by the screen plate and cannot pass through.
C. Reject Removal Zone
The heavy impurities intercepted by the screening plate are pushed toward the end of the rotating drum by internal spiral blades or lifting plates as the drum continues to rotate. Finally, these impurities are continuously or intermittently discharged from the machine through dedicated slag discharge ports. This process achieves the simultaneous removal of useless impurities from the system while crushing, significantly reducing the burden on subsequent purification equipment.
